Newbies norzang Posted September 3, 2008 Newbies Posted September 3, 2008 Hello, I'm working on a chinese-french dictionary application in FMP Advanced 9. The translation on chinese requires formatting of french text also in italics an bold. Done on MacOS (10.5), everything is fine. When I open the application in Windows (XP), the correct formating is retained only for the basic style of a font, all italics or bold is definitely lost, and moreover there is no way of reapplying styles (e.g. Font-Italic, Font-Bold etc.). Is this a known bug or is there a way to retain the formatting while going cross-platform? Thanks for any help or ideas.
comment Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 I am only guessing here, but it sounds like a font issue. Does the font you are using on Windows have the required variants? You can see if the formatting is retained on data level by examining the results of: GetAsCSS ( YourText ) in the Data Viewer or in a calculation field.
Newbies norzang Posted September 3, 2008 Author Newbies Posted September 3, 2008 Well, I tried GetAsCSS and all the formatting info is indeed present. Have you ever tried to format text on MacOS with several font variants (italic, bold) text in one field and view it on Windows ?
comment Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 I don't think this is a cross-platform issue. I believe you will see the same problem with a new file created under Windows, using the same font. Some fonts just don't have the glyphs to display these variants.
Newbies norzang Posted September 3, 2008 Author Newbies Posted September 3, 2008 The fonts on the 2 platforms are strictly identical. I found out that on windows FMP cannot recognize their name as noted down internally by FMP Mac. The solution (actually the workaround) is to generate again windows fonts with a name corresponding to what it wants to find.
gregm1 Posted December 10, 2008 Posted December 10, 2008 I have this problem as well. Could you point me to any tutorials on how to achieve this? I've tried using TransType Pro, but I don't really understand which name I should be editing. My knowledge of fonts on the Windows platform is very limited as well. Thanks
Lee Smith Posted December 10, 2008 Posted December 10, 2008 Hi gregm1, I would start with this information Here, which is avaiable in your User Guide, and the Online Help ([color:blue]Menu Help when FileMaker is open). HTH Lee
