Hi folks -

I am in the process of switching from pc to mac

And from Approach to FM

I played with the trial of FM on my daughter's laptop, converted and set-up a good portion of my work, loved FM, bought it, and installed it on my desktop imac.

I opened the file - no problem.

However, when I try to use Layout, I'm locked out - not allowed to make any changes. I get the error message, 'this action cannot be performed because this file is not modifiable."

Well, I can't find any place that will give me more rights than I already have!

I've gone to File->Manage->Accounts and Privileges

Accounts

Guest is not active

Admin has full access

Somehow FM doesn't think I'm the admin, I guess.....

When I go to File->Manage->Database, I get the same error message, but then I'm allowed to the next screen.

I feel like there's some initial setting I have to toggle on, but I'm not sure what or where.

Or is the data file being cranky because I created it on my daughter's laptop with the trial, and now I'm trying to use it on my imac?

Thanks for your assistance -

Marion

I'm guessing you're not opening the DB from a CD or a disk image, so it's probably a permissions thing.

Do a "Get info" on the DB to see what your OS X privileges are.

Very very good -

I cannot find Get Info from within FM, so I looked from within Finder.

Sure enough, the file is set to Read Only.

I changed that and now I'm good-to-go.

thank you -

Marion
