Chrisjon Posted September 20, 2008 Posted September 20, 2008 I have read many many posts regarding Admin Console's flakiness when trying to properly administer a Mac server running FMSA9 advanced. The only way I have managed to get it to work properly is by re-installing FMSA on the server every time Admin Console starts to misbehave. Today I had a power failure and my Mac server re-started itself. All FM files being served OK via IWP. But, once again, Admin Console now tells me that the DB server isn't running (when it is!), so I can't use it to do very much. Proper Shutdowns and managed Restarts etc on the server don't help. I haven't re-installed FMSA but once again it looks as 'though I will have to (for the n'th time!). I'm 100% up-to-date with Apple's OSX, FMI's .326 etc etc. WHY hasn't FMI fixed this issue on the Mac platform? Does anyone know of a simple fix that avoids having to do yet another re-install? I still haven't seen a definitive fix anywhere! Hoping for something solid from FMI on this - but as yet there's just a we'll get back to you - as I've heard before - and advice to update to .326 - I know all that but the problem isn't fixed! Anyone out there got any views/comments/fixes? Thanks!
Ocean West Posted September 20, 2008 Posted September 20, 2008 I feel your pain, just today I tired to remote to a client - ERROR, then i went to a different clients place and hooked in on my laptop to the network to upload a database - NOPE, more errors, had to take the files on a thumb drive over to the server (thankfully it worked local) Then just now I installed 9 on my machine from scratch, low and behold ... i was slapped in the face again... I have had it with this java app.
Chrisjon Posted September 20, 2008 Author Posted September 20, 2008 Yes, the java app or its server segment, whatever that is, seems to get itself in a mess and the only way to sort it seems to be to re-install everything, including, I imagine, the components involved with the Admin Console. This is a rediculous situation for what is supposed to be enterprise-grade server software, and I am really surprised that FMI haven't yet sorted it out. The amount of noise around this issue, and Admin Console's apparent fragility, does not seem to be getting heard at FMI, or maybe they are trying to do something about it as I write - here's hoping. Everything else to do with FM, as a database engine, is great - but I for one am now moving over to SQL/PHP because I spend too much time having to re-start/re-install my customer's servers. I suspect I am not alone. Still looking for a fix, 'though! FMI - PLEASE TAKE NOTE!
