Mats Posted November 5, 2008 Posted November 5, 2008 I made a Invoice program before FM could use multiple tables in the same file. So now my invoice program have 20 different files related to each other. Is there a way to import or easy change this database so it's one file, but with 20 tables? Thanks.
Fitch Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 Do a search here on "consolidate" and you will find many discussions on the topic.
Mats Posted November 6, 2008 Author Posted November 6, 2008 So to make it simple. There is no simple way to do this. Getting layout, relationships etc. and just "consolidate" Or by FMrobot 2 that also needs some work and a lot of $$$ :)
Fitch Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 Parts of it are simple (copy/paste or import tables); parts of it are not (create relationships, layouts and value lists). Try consolidating one file and see how it goes. It may not be as bad as you think.
Mats Posted November 7, 2008 Author Posted November 7, 2008 Well maybe the biggest problem I found was that I could not import or copy / paste the design and layout and get the fields on the right place. Simple explained I could not get the new i.e. invoice getting the same look.
Fitch Posted November 7, 2008 Posted November 7, 2008 You have to do it in a certain order: 1. Create the table and fields (copy/paste or import) 2. Create Table Occurrences and relationships - Be sure the TO names exactly match the old ones! 3. Create layouts (but leave them BLANK) - Be sure the layout names exactly match the old ones! 4. Import or copy your scripts - Be sure the script names exactly match the old ones! They may get renamed, e.g. if there is a Print script already, the new one will become "Print 2" 5. NOW you can copy and paste all the layout objects. Note: if you foresee naming confusion, you should rename TOs, layouts, and scripts in the old file before you start consolidating. Example: you're merging Invoices into Accounts, and you have a layout in Accounts called "List" and a layout in Invoices called "List." Rename the Invoices layout in the Invoices file INV List. Then in step 3 above, make your new layout INV List. Confusion avoided.
Mats Posted November 7, 2008 Author Posted November 7, 2008 Thanks a lot. A simple and good tutorial Just one question so far: Is it not possible to import or copy the relationships also?
Fitch Posted November 8, 2008 Posted November 8, 2008 Not possible. You can copy the names, but that's it. Also I forgot, after step 3, create your value lists (which also cannot be copied or imported).
Mats Posted November 19, 2008 Author Posted November 19, 2008 (edited) After 3 hours I still did not manage to implement / import a simple table It's the "LineItems_SC" that I have tried to incorporate from file to a table. I attache it if anybody would have a min. to tell me what a stupid misstake I have done!! Invoice_Mediahelp.fp7.zip Edited November 19, 2008 by Guest
