Newbies mae Posted November 27, 2008 Newbies Posted November 27, 2008 Hi, I was wondering if you could help me solve my filemaker problem regarding the SUM function? I created a timesheet which records and computes for the total number of chargeable hours per day (this is working well). The problem comes when I want to calculate the average chargeable hours for each week. I expect that if I could specify (perform a find) which records I wanted to total then I could use the Sum function to give me the total chargeable hours for the week. The sum function produces a random result. To test the Sum function, we narrowed down the search to just one day for which we knew the number of chargeable hour (eg 4) and the Sum function limited to just one day produces a different result (eg 5.5). SUM(Table::Chargeablehours SUM) I appreciate any feedback from you. Thank you, Mae
Newbies mae Posted November 27, 2008 Author Newbies Posted November 27, 2008 Hi, We have a timesheet database. There is one record created for every person for everyday. On each record, is a portal containing a list of the work tasks completed. The daily total (summary field) is given in the trailing grand summary part of each record. We want to add a weekly average (Monday-Sunday) on every record. Depending on the selected day, the average may include forward looking or backward looking days or be for a partial week. For any day, we CAN perform a find for the relevant records. Our problem: We tried to use the SUM function to add the daily total field from the found records. The figure is inaccurate and we are not sure why. Even when the found count is 1 record, the SUM function of that 1 record is different to the daily total. We think our problem is the way we are using the SUM function. Can anyone give us any help? Thank you, Mae
Ocean West Posted November 27, 2008 Posted November 27, 2008 Mae, welcome to the forums, it could take time to answer the posts as many are off for the holidays, I merged these posts as they are about the same topic. - What you need is a sub summary part and the SUMMARY field in order to provide correct totals on the layout.
