mr_vodka Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 I would love the ability in the next release of FileMaker to allow value lists to be based off a global variable. The uses of it are enormous as well as the significant reduction of creating value lists... Think of all the possiblities in conjunction with the newly added script triggering. Also I am still waiting for my arrays... :P
comment Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 Even a global FIELD would do, if you're in a script. I wish all this stored vs. unstored stuff would go away - we circumvent it all the time anyway, why cannot it be done natively? OK, so it would be slower - finding on unstored is also slower, but at least it's possible. Speaking of variables - how about being able to use a variable as a matchfield matchvalue in a relationship?
LaRetta Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 That's a great jpg, John. I had originally missed your modification of the dialog. :smile2:
mr_vodka Posted January 7, 2009 Author Posted January 7, 2009 Yeah that would be cool but i think much harder to implment for FMI. As for stating a global field, I agree with you there completely. I can perhaps see why there may be some hitches with unstored calcs but using a global field or variable should definately be doable since the values are "stored" on the client session anyway.
