January 14, 200916 yr OK, whats the trick! We've been using FM6 (ok no laughing) and I just converted some of our files to FM10 trial version to test. However, I can't access the files with my password the way I used to i.e. hold down the shift key and double click the file and enter pw. What's the trick to opening them with a pw now?? Thanks in advance, Sheryl
January 14, 200916 yr It is not a trick, it is a feature added in version 7, when converting these older files, i.e., files with extension of 3, 4, 5, FileMaker added Admin as Account Name. HTH Lee
January 14, 200916 yr Not quite. Files that previously had NO password will now have admin/(blank) as full access user, and that will also be added to the file options as the default account. Files that do have passwords will now have that password as the password AND as the user name. Plus, the password is now case-sensitive.
January 14, 200916 yr Hey Sheryl. How ya been? : After you convert to .fp7 format, the passwords you guys have (FM6) will become the user and password for the newly converted files. Watch for case sensitivity for the passwords. You (and your boss) may want to read these http://www.filemaker.com/downloads/pdf/fm7_converting.pdf http://www.filemaker.com/downloads/documentation/fm8_converting_databases.pdf Ciao.
January 14, 200916 yr Author Hi"Mr_Vodka"! Our current (fm6) files are set up to "try password" in document preferences. So it looks like I will need to turn that off prior to converting so I don't have this issue. And as far as the case sensitive portion, we will have to make sure that all files have the same "case" password before converting because right now it's a mish mash of consistancy : some have caps and some don't. This is going to be a nightmare for current clients that have a gazillion and a 1/2 jobs! Thanks for the feed back, I really appreciate it! Sheryl
January 15, 200916 yr You might want to take a look at the Migration and Conversion Mega Tech Brief that was done when FileMaker Pro 7 was released in March of 2004. The issues it discusses are still around when converting from the .fp5 format. Thge document is on the FMI web site, but if you can't find it, please advise, and I'll see about getting some links. Steven
January 15, 200916 yr Here is the link to the updated tech brief that I *believe* Steven was inferring to. http://www.filemaker.com/downloads/pdf/techbrief_fm8_migrtn_found.pdf Also this should be a must read for those converting. It will help a lot with the new concepts. http://www.digfm.org/ref/FM7_key_concepts.pdf
