March 7, 200916 yr Newbies Hello, I'm creating my own FM solution to help me with prices,.. for making frames for canvas prints. Actually It says me all the parts needed, size of the canvas,... Only option I got problems it's a calculation to optimice cuts of the wood. The wood strip got 250 cm. and I get a maximum of 10 differents lenghts to mix (5 fields with width and height) Any idea of the calculations to follow to get the the cuts optimiced?
March 7, 200916 yr I can give you the calculation for the amount of material required, but I would need a lot more information. Need to to know the width of the frame material. Does the frame overlap the picture? How much? Picture size. How much waste do expect? Are you doing one frame when needed or are you planning some sort of mass production?
March 8, 200916 yr This is not really a Filemaker issue, but a mathematical problem - and I doubt it can be solved using the tools provided in Filemaker.
March 8, 200916 yr Author Newbies Actually it says the individual parts needed but I want to optimice the cuts in a 250 cm strap. I know it's a one-dimensional (1D) optimization, and I'm thinkin in order them from larger to shorter and any kind of loop to check the best cuts. Easy for just one frame, but it seems very difficult for option of 5 diferents sizes of frames and with different quantities. I could cut the options to 4 sizes or even 3 sizes of frames.

April 11, 20169 yr Hi Lee, After Googling for couple of hours, I only found very few materials about this matter and mostly old posts so I just took my chance, I thought may I will receive replies although there is a low chance. Just out of interest, does posting on old post have any negative impact on the forums efficiency and reliability?

However, if the OP hasn't been back for such a long time, they probably have moved on, so I wouldn’t look for a reply from them. p.s. did you look at the reference link that comment posted back then?
