March 25, 200916 yr I'm trying hard to develop a FM9 database and I run into a (basic?) problem. Basicly, I have four tables, all linked to eachother, where I can keep track of events, notes, schedules and goals. On the start layout of my database I have buttons to create new entries. I want to have a portal who shows the summary (an existing field in every of four table) and the date. The aim is to select one date and see all the entries done on that date. Is there an easy way to do this? I am looking forward for any hint or advice! Thank you in advance for any post.
March 25, 200916 yr Author Thank you for your post. I'll try to do it. It's in my head, I will do a PDF from OMNI Graffle. Needs some time...
March 25, 200916 yr Author I can try with that. Everything is in german. The tables where we find the dates are Aufgaben, Fälle, Notizen, Ziele. They should be shown in "Alle Fälle". There still is some mess in it - it works, but will get some cleaning... Beziehungen.pdf
March 25, 200916 yr Perhaps some coloring of same table in the same colour. Because what looked like a selfjoin at first glance weren't by closer inspection. You have dates scattered all over the place - why? It seems like you have several layouts, why just one single TOG? --sd
March 25, 200916 yr Author Søren Your help is really appreciated. I added a key color for every table in this new PDF. Grey or black is for administrative infos. I have creation dates, information dates (for instance due, or discussion dates) and topic closed date. Choosing the right date value is depending on the table. I think only one date per table is what i need. What do you mean by "TOG" ? Beziehungdiagramm.pdf
March 25, 200916 yr You need to get the gist of this: http://www.fmp.it/download/files/FM7_key_concepts.pdf ...where it's said that the RG isn't an ERD, whether or not your attempt to normalise your solution could be regarded as done - should remain unsaid? The choise of tables and table occurrences is it a result of an impeccable hunch or have you worked yourself thru the normal forms? --sd
March 25, 200916 yr I would rather say an inadequate relational structure - but I can't speak for Michael here? --sd
March 25, 200916 yr if I understand you well that means four portals? It means either four portals, or one table. I haven't been able to understand your solution's structure, and more importantly, what it is supposed to do. In general, you could either (1) put all four types of data into the same table, or (2) have an additional common table, where each record in one of the four tables has a corresponding record. The second option could be maintained as you go (i.e. a supertype/subtype data model), or created ad hoc by clearing the table and importing only the selected day's entries.
