ODBC source data import - freezes?

Featured Replies

I have set up an ODBC source to import data from sql database into FM. The FM file in which I import is on a workstation (ODBC is set up on the same workstation) while the actual SQL db is on a server. The db has about 100k records, text only. When I try to import if I select only 1 field it works without any issues and records are imported right away. If I however select 2 fields or more it just hangs there without doing anything. Left it for 30 mins and nothing changed.

Is the issue in FM, size of the db or because I am doing it from a workstation and not the server?

Not sure what is wrong so I do not know where to look to try to fix the issue.

If I set the same with Access and link the tables, all of the data comes without any issues...

Thanks.,

There doesnt seem to be anything unusual in your setup. You can open a client and import into a served FileMaker file. 100K records isnt exhorbinant. Have you tried from another client box?

Heh, thanks, that must have been the issue. Just tried it on server and it worked without any issues. I wonder why though, might just be the network issue or something like that.

Will test it from other workstations later in the day. If it needs to be done from the server every time it will pose issues as employees do not have server access.

Thanks.,
