April 2, 200916 yr Hello all, I hope everyone is well and in good spirits! I'm looking for some direction/advice. I have just started working on an inventory solution/daily sales log. I just wanted to make sure I can accomplish what I'm after using a portal or portals. I have attached what we have been using to keep track of daily sales. (its a .pdf of an excel file) I would like to have my portal automatically display all the active items and look pretty close to the attached file. I threw a quick portal together and the drop down method works fine but i would like to make what Im working on as close to looking like what we had been using. A friend of mine put one together with a lot of fields and calcs but I thought a portal would be better to get different reports? What would be the best thing to do or look into here? I really don't know where to start, or what its called. Thanks in advance, ric MERCH_DAILY.pdf
April 2, 200916 yr This seems better suited to produce as a report than using a portal. A Subsummary report will allow you to group by your type, size, etc.
April 2, 200916 yr Hi dbfreak, and Welcome to the Forum I'll add to what Mr. Vodka's has posted. Portals are great for viewing related data, but difficult, if not impossible, to use as a printed report. Because they work well for viewing data, it is not uncommon for new users to try to make reports with them. Portals just don't have the tools that you will find available in the Report Layouts. BTW, if you were to do a search of FM Forums, using Keywords of +Printing +Portals (+Reports +Portal), you should find numerious Threads on this subject. HTH Lee
April 5, 200916 yr Author Thank you both very much. It sounds like I would have been extremely frustrated after all that work and then learning that about reporting. We did have a layout and a whole mess of fields and calculations put together that worked out pretty well with the exception of an small scripting error. I was sure the portal would save some space and work as needed. I am so glad I asked first! Thanks for the hint on the threads too! Have a great weekend! ric
