Newbies sofiapple Posted April 8, 2009 Newbies Posted April 8, 2009 Hi-- I am a newbie and I don't know if I am posting in the right place so I apologize in advance if I am not where I should be. Need the most cost efficient way of sharing a database remotely with 2-5 other individuals. Each of us works from home, and we each need to make changes to the database. Also, need to make some parts of the database available to clients. Do I need to buy various licenses? Or do I just need one copy of FM10 and they can access and make changes on the web? I don't want to spend a fortune because this is a startup and we just want to provide better service to customers. Also any suggestions on a good FM web hosting would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for any help!
IdealData Posted April 8, 2009 Posted April 8, 2009 Given your funding situation and low user audience then 1 copy FMP using Instant Web Publishing should be the ticket. Instant Web Publishing is limited to 5 guests web guests and 9 FMP guests. IWP is less functional than FMP (no printing!!!), but if you can live within the limitations you'll save a lot of money. Hosting? There's lots, just google it or search the ads on this forum.
Newbies sofiapple Posted April 8, 2009 Author Newbies Posted April 8, 2009 Thank you IdealData. I did not know that they wouldn't be able to print without FMP licenses of their own. Besides not being able to print, are there any other limitations? Thanks again for helping a newbie!
John May - Point In Space Posted April 8, 2009 Posted April 8, 2009 Have a look at a hosting provider, such as ourselves: http://www.pointinspace.com/ We provide the hardware and FileMaker Server Advanced licenses necessary to reliably host your database (versus using peer-to-peer sharing in FileMaker Pro). Feel free to let me know any questions you may have either here or offline to jmay(at)pointinspace.com. - John
