April 8, 200916 yr I'm wondering of there is a summary or calc function that would look at the values in a field and count how many unique values there is. ex. Ive got a very simple ECM. three table all link thru the record number. In my call log table their are multiple records per record number, i would love to have a field that returned how many different contacts were in the table (not how many calls) if there was a field that just counted how many unique occurrences were in the record number field in the found set..... id be golden
April 8, 200916 yr In the context of a relationship, you could define a value list of contacts, showing only related values. Applying ValueCount() to the result of ValueListItems() will give you the result you are looking for. There are other ways, depending on in which context you need this.

April 8, 200916 yr Author ok...i will ask the boss if i can do that...for now i will try to explain better what i need... excuse my lingo, im a pysch major that just happened to get a com 64 when i was younger and have figured stuff out on my own ever since. i have two tables one called lead gen and one called call log. in the call log table i am running a report that does pattern counts on the different dispositions of calls. every call log record gets a disposition, user name, timestamp, notes and a record number from the lead gen table. the portal in the lead gen shows three of the last call logs and can then scroll to see all the calls made to a record. on the report for the call log table im running conversion rates as to how many contacts were contacted, how many messages left ect. im looking to obtain a count of the contacts in the call log (not calls). so in my mind it seems that there would be a calculation that would return the amount of unique record numbers in the record number field. remember depending on the amount of contacts made one single record number could have 10 or so records in the call log. i hope i was able to express my needs a little better this time. im thinking my owner would prefer to not upload a copy of the solution, we are in a very compeditive industry and its very specific to our marketing needs. i came up with using the pattern count for this also i just cant get it to work the way i need it... im missing something
April 8, 200916 yr If you want this in the context of a report, then look here: http://fmforums.com/forum/showtopic.php?tid/196904/ --- P.S. Please try to fix that Shift key on your keyboard - your message is really hard to read as is.
April 9, 200916 yr Author Thank you Comment... It worked perfectly! I do think it would be easy for Claris to add a "Unique Count" option on the summary field. That I would have found on my own and have been done with this last week. At least the problem brought me to this community finally after more than a decade of FM fun. I think this topic name will help people find this solution easier in the future. FYI I never use my shift key so I hope you appreciate it. -Dave
April 9, 200916 yr Claris has become FileMaker Inc. in 1998. Welcome back. FYI I never use my shift key so I hope you appreciate it. I appreciate it the same as I do the fact that you write in English, use sentences with a subject and a predicate, adhere to the accepted spelling of words and so on.
