Need a checkbox to mark record for deletion

Featured Replies

Ok, maybe its that Ive been looking at the screen too long, combined with my newness to FMP -

but I cannot figure out how to make one single checkbox on my layout that when checked marks that record for deletion.

I would like a checkbox where users can mark records... they stay marked until the button gets clicked that does a find for those with checks and deletes all the records of that find.

Can someone help me? My head hurts! hahahah

Create a number field, flag_IsMarked.

Use Field>Setup to format it as a checkbox with a value list that just contains the number "1" (no quotes).

The button finds all records flag_IsMarked =1, and then I'd pop a dialog to confirm deletion.

I prefer to do my marking records usually by storing a global text field with the IDs of the records that I have marked. In this case, you can then do a simple script with GTRR and then delete the found set. It avoids record locking as well as different sets for different people.

I usually collect IDs in a global, too, but in this case don't you feel that it is better to store the mark in the record? Delete can happen through a loop instead of isolating marked and Delete Found Set, but the worst case is that you're left with a marked record that couldn't be deleted bcs another user had it open.

I guess I can see your point. I guess in the end it really would depend on the business process.

Well, thanks. As for biz process...that's something we're often left to wonder about here.
