Exporting Carriage Returns

Featured Replies

When I export data from FM in csv or xls filemaker places a symbol for the carriage return that windows displays as a little square. kind of like □

I could export in other formats as well if they don't do this.

Is there a way to change this behavior?

I thought line feed was ASCII code 10?

BTW, I am not sure about imports since I havent tested it, but for when using ESS, in FM10, the character no longer shows as a square ( properly renders it) where in 9 it did.

Also for those that are using FM10, you can now use Char (10) and Char (11) to substitute them out as part of an auto-entry if they are there.

You've got me puzzled, John. I thought this was about exporting fields containing carriage returns. I'm not aware of any changes in v.10 regarding this aspect.

My apologies. For some reason I thought it was importing data with those characters.

As for the behavior change, in version 9 when viewing ESS fields with those character, it would display with the square. However in FM10, it no longer displays as a square.

Sorry for the confusion. ;)
