Urgent. Table missing due to Relationship graph mishap

I apologize if this is a subject that was already covered by other threads, but time is of the essence! And I don't have time to sift through all of them. I have entry level experience in FileMaker and after working on a "asset" relationship graph the records do not show up on the "layout" view. What ensues is a notification that says "This action can not be performed because the required table is missing." So what I am guessing is that the original "asset" relationship graph was affected, so if this is the case could someone help me piece together the original asset graph if this is at all possible. If any other solution is possible please recommend, I'm all ears!

First of all, Welcome!

Your question is similar to, "My pivot table isn't working in Excel because the data range name has been deleted. Please help."

Can you post a copy of the file with all private data deleted and tell us which layout to look at? Don't forget to provide us with the login credentials (user name/password). We might be able to see what broke. Otherwise, you might need to call in a FM developer.

Since you are sounding a bit (rightfully) frantic, you can try this ...

Make sure your table is still displaying in Manage Database > Tables (I suspect it is). If it is, you probably have only deleted the 'occurrence' of it from your graph. If it isn't in your graph, add it again.

Then you will have to go to that layout and select (from layout mode) Layouts > Layout Setup and re-select the table occurrence in 'show records from.'

You will also have to select every single field and re-point them to this table occurrence as well (and check any scripts etc. that may have depended upon it).

And for future, back up your file as often as you can (close it and zip it and set it aside). Keep many copies backwards in case you run into problems. :wink2:

Not that it needs to be said but I would back your DB up and try to repair a copy as to not complicate things more then they already are.

Well, if you are speaking of running Recover, then that won't bring a table occurrence back and one can't use a Recovered file anyway. But it's the thought that counts!! :wink2:

I just mean you may want to duplicate the file you are having trouble with before tinkering so that you do not inadvertently cause more problems.

If your table occurrence isn't in the graph, it won't cause more problems adding it back. But I totally agree that we should, always, back up our files before doing any work on them. :wink2:

Thank You So Very Much

I keep reading the same things except for what I really need, which was your mentioning of the layout.

I tried the association though and it did not work for the layout I used, so I just made a new layout, and there was all of my data. I then imported it into the new database I made to replace the old one (with the missing values).
