Mike CPB Posted January 11, 2010 Posted January 11, 2010 I've had experience with both sever 9 and 10, I was wondering why in version 10 the backup's have separate folders for each scheduled backup? Can this behavior be disabled? Regards, Mike.
Wim Decorte Posted January 11, 2010 Posted January 11, 2010 No, it can't be disabled. The feature was introduced to allow multiple backups to be saved instead of the last backup being overwritten with the current one, a sort of backup history.
bcooney Posted January 11, 2010 Posted January 11, 2010 You could have a parent directory, so that you have a "fixed" backup directory name.
Mike CPB Posted January 11, 2010 Author Posted January 11, 2010 To be fair what I wanted to achieve was fixed in version 10... I was using a third party app with fms 9 for revision backups. And that software also compressed and updated to ftp, quite efficiently, compared to the full backup of each schedule in a different time-stamped folder. Guess I will have to re-think my extra backup with this new setup. Thanks for the quick reply; I didn't think that feature could be disabled. Regards, Mike.
Steven H. Blackwell Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 You want to be sure that this third party system [color:red]does not access the live files hosted by FileMaker Server. Have FMS make both a primary and a secondary backup and push that secondary backup out somewhere where the third party tool can access it. Steven
