Display dynamic field content in Find Mode

Featured Replies

I have a need to display the content of calculation fields in find mode. Any input & brainstorming much appreciated!

The only idea had so far was the following work-around:

Set global variables with content from calculation fields before entering find mode, then display result of variables in web viewer in place of fields.

Maybe it's because I don't know HMTL, but I wasn't able to format the text in the web viewer to fit in seamlessly with the rest of my FileMaker layout.

Any other ideas/experience with this?

Thanks!

Why not global fields instead of global variables?

Also why not global variables merged ( you have 11 ) on the layout ?

As far as I know the content of a global field disappears just the same when you switch to find mode...

Did you try it ?

I tried global fields, yes. It does't work because you can search in global fields just the same as in non-global fields.

I haven't tried FM 11 merge variables, because our client has FM 10.

It does't work because you can search in global fields just the same as in non-global fields.

Did you try it?

All you need to do is place a global field on a layout, put some content into it, switch to find mode and watch the content disappear...

But it doesn't work that way.

Global content does NOT disappear in Find mode.

That is just one of the many marvelous uses of global fields.

May be that we are speaking about different things.

No, I was being stupid... I named my field "global field", but didn't actually set it to be global.

Duh!

Thank you for putting up with my stubbornness and showing me a very easy way to solve a problem!!!

Hi rheinport,

I named my field "global field", but didn't actually set it to be global.

I think we have all been there and done that.
