I have a simple list view of records set up but I am having a problem with it. Sometimes when I click into a record it jumps from the top or the middle to the bottom of the list. why is this happening it is very distracting behavior. Is there some way to prevent it?

Are you using [color:blue]version 7, or have you [color:blue]upgraded to a new version.

Sorry it has taken me so long to get back, I am using FM pro 11. The record starts in the middle of the screen, and when I click into a field, I find that the record can move to the bottom of the screen. I don't think that it is a sort order issue.

I think you are describing how the cursor acts when you click into a field in one record, and the use the next button in the status bar to go to the next record, without actually leaving the field?

No?

No. I enter the field, it has a drop down list. But before I even change the value the whole view moves. the record that I clicked into might move from the very top of the screen to the bottom. It doesn't happen every time just on the odd occasion, but I can find no common reason. I have worked around the problem for now with a button that makes the change for me. If I click the button on the specific records i get no jumping behavior. It is only if I physically click into the field or around it. I will just have to move ahead.

I am only trying to get back to thinking filemaker, after a long break.

How tall is the body part of the layout compared withe height of the screen?

It sounds as though the screen is scrolled so the currently selected record moves off-screen, then you click on another record. FMP will scroll the window to move the new record onto the window depending on the size of the body part an if part of the body is below the window.
