Sending SMS from Filemaker

Featured Replies

I want to send a SMS to a mobile phone from within Filemaker, any easy way to do this??

Some of our clients have eMail and others are on the road SMS would be good

You might try a service like way2sms.com

A real simple solution is to create a second email address dedicated to SMS, since all carriers today offer email addresses to their customers' phones. e.g. [email protected]

Has anyone done Applescript or had anything to do with SMS Mac

Yes I have done sms from FMP on both Mac and PC. It is dead simple. No need for AppleScript, just send an e-mail.

It requires an sms gateway. They usually require some money (since somebody has to pay to send the sms). What you do on the FMP end depends on what the sms gateway requires.

I have worked with 2 sms gateways. One was very straightforward: send an e-mail to @smsgateway.com with the sms message in the body of the e-mail. The From address is used to work out who to bill and has to be registered with the gateway.

Another sms gateway had a set e-mail address to send to that identified the gateway client, the mobile number and message were embedded in the body of the message in an xml-like format. This was a bit more work but not hard.

I don't think you can send sms without going through a gateway of some kind. Yes, some mobile phone providers offer a free e-mail to sms gateway but it requires knowing the provider of the mobile number beforehand, which makes them pretty useless since you cannot look at the phone number and work out who the provider is.
