projay Posted October 24, 2010 Posted October 24, 2010 Whats the best way to calculate each reapeat panel? Does the same line have to be entered each time for each repeating panel? If so how would you distinguish one repeating panel line from the next? Example For (Amount) Field (repeating panel 1) Qty*cost (reaeating panel 2) Qty*cost Thanks, Jay.
LaRetta Posted October 24, 2010 Posted October 24, 2010 Hi Jay, The best way to calculate this is to NOT. You are putting actual data into repeating fields which (I'm pretty sure) should be records instead (in 99% of instances). Are these lineitems on an invoice by chance? It might make sense then that you didn't respond to Comment's suggestions on lookups; that his response might not have worked using lookups since you were using repeaters? Can you explain what you are doing since it is very difficult to use repeaters when working with actual data in this way. :wink2:
projay Posted October 25, 2010 Author Posted October 25, 2010 Okay, Okay your right. I have begun the transformation from using repeating panels to Lineitems. The repeating panels made it so much easier to setup an invoice type form for a beginner without having to go through the relationship setup. I would be more than happy to email you my dbase setup so you can critique it. Jay.
LaRetta Posted October 25, 2010 Posted October 25, 2010 Nah, I don't want to critique your solution - that sounds too much like work. Besides, to understand relationships, we have the perfect example right here: Basic Invoices Demo by Comment It would work best if you match this base structure and even create a test file where you create some test relationships to understand them. I assure you that it may SEEM more complex to start but it isn't ... it's just that you don't understand relational structures yet. Once you grasp the simple concept, your solution will be many-times easier to design. Once you've matched this structure in his file and if you still don't understand, post questions and we can easily assist with proper answers. In fact, the two links Michael referenced before that you never responded to, will work well in your new 'proper relational' structure and the question you posted here will come together more easily as well. You are not alone in this. This forum is made up of highly qualified Developers who give their time freely to help. :smile2:
