Spidey Posted November 8, 2010 Posted November 8, 2010 Hi If my laptop cannot access internet and I still want to use my filemaker file which should be connected the the database in the filemaker server, is there a way I can still use my filemaker file offline and when I can go online, new records can update my current database in my laptop? Any help is appreciate. Thanks Kent
bcooney Posted November 8, 2010 Posted November 8, 2010 This is the classic "sync" data question. Are you the only user of the database or are other users creating new records? Will you be editing existing records? It's really not simple. You may wish to look at SyncDek.
Spidey Posted November 8, 2010 Author Posted November 8, 2010 (edited) Thank you for your reply. Unfortunely...I am not the only user, and user cannot edit the product information in the client side. Only the administrator of the filemaker file in fm server is able to edit the file. Just wondering that Filemaker server does not provide synchronization for users, is it correct? Thanks. bcooney Posted November 8, 2010 Posted November 8, 2010 That is correct, FMI does not provide synchronization natively.
Vaughan Posted November 9, 2010 Posted November 9, 2010 The whole point of networked multi-user databases is to *avoid* the need for synching multiple copies. Synching, as Barbara so eloquently (under)stated, is "really not simple". In fact it's quite difficult: there are a lot of devils in the detail.
