Will files being served on a FM Pro 3 Server send e-mail messages? Only FM Pro 4 allows the e-mail scripting option, and I cannot get the "served" file to send the e-mail message. I want an e-mail notification to go to the initiator of a service order when the order is complete.

I am using Eudora Light 3.1.3 and have Internet Config set for "mailto", but Eudora will not send an e-mail, even with Eudora open and running. The files on the server were created originally in FileMaker 3, but have been modified in FM 4 (including the addition of the e-mail script).

When I *manually* initiate an e-mail gets sent no problem.

Since there is no FileMaker 4 Server, do I need a workaround?

Thanks for any help.

I don't think FMP 3 supports the send mail script step. This is not a problem for FMP server because it's only hosting the databases not running them.

The processing of scripts all happens on the client copy of FMP. So for the scripts with send mail to work the users must be running FMP 4 *and* have their computers set up with Eudora or Claris Emailer (the only two mailers that FMP4 works with).

From memory, the mail only gets sent from Eudora if it is set to check mail automatically and the "send on check" option is selected.

Somebody else posted a work-around using the URL script step that will trick FMP to passing a mailto: to the default web browser. However I don't know whether FMP 3 supports the Open URL script step.
