elvis_impersonating_penguin Posted November 2, 2000 Posted November 2, 2000 i am having trouble deleting record from a database. i am not even able to delete them throught the mode menut at the top.. has anyone else had this problem? if so how do i fix it??? oh yeah, almost forgot.. i am using filemaker 4.1 [This message has been edited by bman (edited November 02, 2000).]

It may be that the password you are accessing the database with doesn't allow the deletion of records. You may not even know you're accessing the database with a sub-master level password because the password may be entered by default when you open the files. An easy way to check to see if you are accessing the databases with a master password is to go to the File menu and see what the menu has in it. If it has Access Privileges with a heirarchal menu attached, you have master access. If it says Change Password instead, then you don't. If you don't have master access, and don't know the master password, you need to speak to whoever built the database and have them either give you the master password or set up the password you are using to allow the deletion of records. If you have master access and still aren't able to delete records, make sure the database isn't locked by the operating system. If you're on a Mac, this is found in the Get Info window of the database in the Finder. If you're on Windows, I'm not sure where such a setting might be found. Chuck
