brian rich Posted December 16, 2010 Posted December 16, 2010 I am considering using the plug-in auto update mechanism to distribute a plugin to a number of our Filemaker users who do not have it currently installed. Am I correct in assuming that the update process occurs directly between the Filemaker Client and the server, so there is no requirement to set up special access privileges on the computer hosting Filemaker server? Thanks Brian
Wim Decorte Posted December 16, 2010 Posted December 16, 2010 That is correct. No need to set up any sharing or such thing on the FMS box. Everything is handled through the FMP client.
brian rich Posted February 28, 2011 Author Posted February 28, 2011 What access privileges are required on client PCs to allow plug-in downloading or updating to occur? Most of the Filemaker users here have computer privileges which do not allow them to install applications on their own computers. Does this mean that I have to change them to make this work correctly? I am getting an error -5 when I try and download the plug-in - "The downloaded file can’t be copied to the current user’s FileMaker Extensions folder" Thanks Brian
Wim Decorte Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 The mechanism requires that the user has Read/Write/Execute privileges to their own documents folder (in their own profile) which is on by default. They don't need rights to install applications. Did you modify the user's rights to their own folders?
