proton Posted February 15, 2001 Posted February 15, 2001 G'dday all, I'm designing a database in Filemaker Pro 4.1. I have a customer's database and a quotations database. Now when the user is creating a quotation in the quotations database they have to select a customer. The customer database will be very large however and I don't want them to have to scroll through a long value list. So what I want to do is create an intermediate database. Now in this intermediate database I want to have a field where they can type the information about the customer (e.g. business name, address, etc.) and this field will be linked (in a relationship) to a similar field in the customer database that has all that information. Now when they are typing in the field in the intermediate database I want to have a portal with some rows, and as they type the records (in the customer database) that match what they type appear in the portal rows, from which they can select one. I don't think this will work however, because I want them to be able to type partial information (like just the customer name or just the address) and I don't think it will work with partial info. Any help I can get will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Vaughan Posted February 16, 2001 Posted February 16, 2001 Take a look at the "Clairvoiance" solution at http://www.databasepros.com/ It's not in a portal but it will go part of the way to meet your needs.

Thanks a lot Vaughan. I will check it out. Hey! This is exactly what I need. A little confusing right now, but I'm sure I can figure it out. Thanks!
