referenced photos via TCP/IP

Using Mac FM4.02 and Mac FM Server3 on TCP/IP server. Photos display if they are pasted in container field but not if they are just referenced. Is there no way to display referenced photos in a TCP/IP shared database? Does FM5 do it? Thanks.

What format are the original referenced fiels in? The web only supports gif and jpeeg. FileMaker Pro (Web Companion) converts a graphic in a container into Jpeg automatically. The same may not occur for referenced images.

Thanks for your reply.

The originals are in JPEG. But I'm not using Web Companion. I'm using a fixed IP server and FM Pro clients.

I talked to FM support who said that the folder on the server hard drive containing the referenced picture files must be set to share and mounted on the local client machine to be referenced by the client application.

I haven't tried this yet. I don't want to have to set up sharing for each potential user.

Instead I'm trying smaller JPEGs pasted in the container fieds.

This will be much more flexible and less trouble if the database doesn't get too big to work efficiently.

Right now it's 1000 pics in a 250mg database.

Thanks again.
