I am trying to define a field that would give me sequential line numbers in a summary report.

No that one did not work for me I'm not trying to get a count of different values in the field I'm

just trying to get sequential line numbers for each line in my report.

No, that's not an accurate description. You are trying to to get sequential group numbers for each group in your report. The fact that your layout has no body part is irrelevant - the problem is exactly the same with it or without.

I did try it. I must have done something wrong because the sCountEmployees field in the solution recommended

just gave me the count of distinct employees.
