fraGiacondo Posted May 5, 2011 Posted May 5, 2011 hi all i´m an autodidact, and i am really new to filemaker, so i really do not have any background related to databases. my profession is architecture. never the less i ´m trying to develop a database to calculate "estimated costs" for a building. i just want to tell something about the thing i´m working on. the basic structure of the database: [Position] -working category (concrete work) [under-Position] -create concrete wall, thickness 15cm -create concrete wall, thickness 20cm -create concrete wall C25 thickness 20cm -create concrete wall C35, waterproof, thickness 25cm and so on for all working categories for the whole building. for the calculation i have the costs for the Positions, and i enter the estimated dimension in [m, m², m³, h, Items......] and preform a multiplication to get the Price. in the process of getting the Prices for the whole building, i use the [under-Position]-Prices and use a SummaryField to get the whole Price of the building (also sub summary for the [Positions]). but there are also [under-Positions], where i want to see the Price (its called an "eventual-position", in the sense of it could also be build in this version), but i do not want to add this price to the Summary Field, i just want to see it. my question: is it possible to build a total of summary or a sub summary, where not all values of the summary are calculated in it? i added a check-box to the [under Positions], so i want if i activate (0/1) the check-box -> to not add Value to the SummaryField. if i create a summary field i do not have the possibility to define (an if-then loop or something similar) the other problem with the summary, i do not get to work is: if i print all, i would like to have a running total summary on the bottom and top of each printed page. is there a way to get this working? maybe somebody could help me.
RodSierra Posted May 5, 2011 Posted May 5, 2011 Create an unstored calculation field: Case ( Checkbox ; valuefield ) Where checkbox is the name of your checkbox field, and valuefield is the name of your valuefield. Then create a summary field and reference this calculation field.
fraGiacondo Posted May 5, 2011 Author Posted May 5, 2011 thank you! RodSierra! yes this is how i wanted to work, now i have to redifine all the value callculations, but thats just a little more work. may be there is also a solution for the summary on the top and bottom of each printed page? regards f.
