melal Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 I have recently met File Maker and I'm using File Maker 11 Pro Advanced. I have two problems and I will be very glad if you help me solving them. My first question: I have a related table and data automatically comes to this related table. I want this data to come automatically (from related table) and also I want to modify/add this field (manually). How can I do that? My second question: I have two diffirent layouts. I want to connect two layout in one layout. (for example one layout consist of 1000 records and the other layout consist of 500 records. The combined layout will consist of 1500 records) How will I do that? With replace field content / replace with calculated result how can I use it? Thank you very much in advance for your help.
bcooney Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 Melal, Welcome to Filemaker and the forums. Your description is not specific enough for me to offer you any help: "I have a related table" - related to what and how? "Data automatically comes to this related table" - describe this process "I want to connect two layout in one layout." - this might indicate you need a portal, describe the data. Looking forward to helping, Barbara
melal Posted June 8, 2011 Author Posted June 8, 2011 Dear Barbara, Thank you very much for your quick response. Regarding my first question, I use portal tool. The data on portal tool comes from other tables automatically. How can I add data to portal tool manually? Regarding my second question, I have two different layouts including contact names. The two lists include details. The only difference between them is the professionality choice. I want to combine these two layouts into one layout. Then there will be only one layout with these two lists' information. How can I do that? Thanks in advance, Regards, Alper
bcooney Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 To add records to the table on which a portal is based, simply enable "Allow creation of Related Records" in the relationship. To be clear, you do not have two layouts of contact names. You have two TABLES of contact names that you wish to combine. Simply import from one to the other, set a type field to distinguish their professionality choice (whatever that is). Then, delete the extra contact table.
