melal Posted October 17, 2011 Posted October 17, 2011 Hi, I want to create grouping for my six portal tools. (like in Excel - The list will have a gruouping / ungrouping button) As I can choose number of items to be grouped, I want to select these portal tools Please find screenshot of my list attached. Thank you. screen shot.zip
melal Posted October 17, 2011 Author Posted October 17, 2011 I want exact property of Exel's grouping / ungrouping for File Maker. Plase see the attachment. screen shots 2.zip
David Jondreau Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 I don't know what Excel's group/ungroup function is really does. Your second screenshot gives a clue, and based on that I'd say to do so would take some fairly advanced skills. I haven't seen anyone else do this.
comment Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 AFAICT, Excel's grouping is (roughly) equivalent to Filemaker's sub-summaries.
David Jondreau Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 Except with the Excel version, it looks like individual summary breaks are expandable/collapsable, which would be a cool feature. And the OP wants it on portals.
comment Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 individual summary breaks are expandable/collapsable, which would be a cool feature. I believe something could be arranged by changing the sort order and/or switching between two layouts - one with a body part and one without. And the OP wants it on portals. I am not sure what that means. I am quite sure, though, that Filemaker is not a spreadsheet and anyone looking for "exact property of Excel's [anything]" is bound to be disappointed.
melal Posted October 19, 2011 Author Posted October 19, 2011 so from your posts I realize that exact group/ungroup property can not be used in Fileamaker :(
comment Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 I prefer to put it this way: I am not sure what exactly you want to achieve. It probably can be done - but the tools to be used must be Filemaker tools, not Excel's.
