November 13, 201114 yr My solution is for an office environment where users each have different size monitors. So, of course, they each either cannot see the whole database or the database is just too small on their monitor, Isn't there a calculation I can insert somewhere to resolve this issue? I can only see the size adjustment to assorted percentages which aren't always appropriate... Thanks in advance... Dr. L
November 13, 201114 yr Always a tough issue. It may end in tears too. Here is what I do. I build the interface to just squeeze into a 13 inch laptop screen (allowing for OS task bars and docks etc) this is something like 1280 by 800 pixels. Check what the standard sizes are today and check between Mac and PCs as both the screen sizes and the available desktop space are different. If the client is still running 800x600 or 1024x768 screens -- well, they'll be gone in 12 months and should have been retired already. Design the layouts to use the auto-size feature so that they can take advantage of larger screens. That's it. No multiple layout sizes. No scripts to work out which to use. Avoid using the zoom option to scale the interface to fit the screen it's NOT what it was designed for. It's basically a legacy feature now.

November 14, 201114 yr Hi LaRetta I mean that I don't support them UNLESS the solution is custom built for the client and it's not going to be marketed to others. Brand new 1400x900 pixel screens are less than $100. Nobody should be using 1024x768 any more and if they are the machines must be 5 years old, near their end of life. (The iPad is different of course.)
November 16, 201114 yr Author Gotcha...thanks! Is there a way to auto size a layout in total, or do I have to adjust each field and graphic indepenedantly? Dr.L Also, perhaps you'll know...when I place a Word document in a container, then try to launch it, something funky happens. JPGs and PDFs open easily and fine, but Word gives me a problem. What's up here?? Dr.L
