Converting CDML (WSC) to Lasso 5?

Arin -

Lasso Lite for OS X probably won't support all the commands from CDML. However, the current Lasso 3.6.x for OS 9 has a CDML compatibility module, which means you only need to change one or two trivial things to get your existing CDML code to work with it (eg: your form actions need to be changed from FMPro to action.lasso).

We talk all our hosting clients through things like this, FYI.

For native OSX support you'll have to wait for Lasso 5 ( I'd recommend using it with WebSTAR V ).

You would have to ask BlueWorld if they have changed the syntax from 3.6, but if they stick to their usual standards there will be no problem porting you CDML format files over and im sure the new Filemaker Tags Mods will support the existing tags in Lasso 3.6 and more new ones.

As far as Lasso lite......I think the Lasso Lite that came with WebSTAR couldn't -Update records so it wasn't much use and consequently I never used it

I'd have to disagree with trusting that Blueworld will come up with compatible tags. The upgrade from 2.5 to 3+ lasso was so drastic that we still have to run 2.5 servers here because we couldn't upgrade all the sites that had already been written with 2.5 that simply would not work on 3+.

Make sense? I haven't had my coffee yet.

  • 4 weeks later...

Bottom line is I should wait for V to come out huh?

Either way am I going to have to use a different OS on my B&W G3 450Mhz box? (It's currently running OS X Server v1.2 - the old one)

Sounds like Lasso works with either OS 9 (web star) or OS X (web star or apache).

Is this true?

Lasso 3.6.6.2 runs on MacOS 8/9 as a WebStar-compliant plugin, or Windows running IIS.

Lasso Lite is currently available for OS X and Red Hat Linux (I think - but it's useless).

Lasso Professional 5 will run on OS X, Red Hat Linux or Windows 2000. Should be released by the end of September or so, I think.

I downloaded the 30 day trial of 3.6.6, and the built-in Lasso web server seem to suck, is this normal?

(Althought I was impressed with the security options)

It looks like I'm sticking with my current set-up until Lasso 5 comes out, and who knows maybe the new OS X Server will be at 10.1 by then so it's usable as a server... wink.gif" border="0

What do you mean by "sucks"? If you're running Filemaker and Lasso Web Server on the same machine you're accessing it from, it's going to be slow because everything's in the background.

On a server machine, Lasso flies. Plus, we've had much better experiences using the Lasso WebStar plug-in rather than the Lasso Server application.

Yeah I guess "sucks" was kind of excessive...

I was just comparing the static .html file serving.

I've got Apache running on that 450Mhz G3, (OS X Server) and even over the partial (256k) T1 it's quite quick.

I tested the Lasso Server running on a 400Mhz G3 (OS 9.1) on a lan (test client machine was only 10baseT) and the lasso config was considerable (over 10 times) slower. on the lan!

**side note (there are about 14 hops between my test client machine and the OS X Server box.

Maybe I didn't spend enough time configuring the lasso set-up (ram ect.)
