Setting Webstar and Remote Database Ser

Featured Replies

I am in the process of setting up my own server for Lasso / FIlemaker / Web hosting for our company.

Machine #1 Webstar and Eudora

Machine #2 Filemaker Pro

It is my understanding I use Lasso w/ Filemaker Remote install?

I also use Filemaker WSC?

Filemaker Unlimited - This is easy

Now how does Webstar know where my Filemaker Database is if its on another server?

Couple of things here.....

yes the FM_Remote mod should be used if the database client is on another machine

This is done through the Lasso security setup - > Filemaker Remote . There is a table where you enter the IP and port of the remote machine and Lasso queries the web companion to see which databases are open (u have to have web companion enabled and configured for all the databases) very much like WSC setup - I would recommend downloading a fresh version of WC even if you have the most recent version.

As for using WSC I havent tried the latest version from FMPro U 5.5 but WSC 1.0 webstar plugin caused some strange problems with my Mac. You may not have any problems at all.

To set it up -> normal WSC setup and then put the IP of the WSC machine (your webserver) in the FM remote setup voila - proper load balancing -not just redundency!

I couldn't get it to work reliably (the webserver used to pause ramdomly for short periods and crash when releasing the plugins after quitting and I had the latest MRJ release) and in your case you only have one client so no need for load balancing!!

The setup is fairly straight forward but try to make sure you are running G4 Server OS rather than the standard as it seems to work much better with WebSTAR 4.4......for me anyway!

Good luck
