john9210 Posted December 30, 2011 Posted December 30, 2011 FileMaker 11 Adv. How can I configure a solution developed on a PC desktop computer to appear properly on a laptop? When I transfer it on a laptop I have to resize all the layouts to fit on the screen. I know the resolution settings can be different but Is there a way for FM to automatically adjust for this? It seems odd that each solution has to be tailored to a specific computer.
jbante Posted December 30, 2011 Posted December 30, 2011 FileMaker layout objects have "anchors" for object resizing to deal with this issue. It isn't perfect for all applications, but it's something. You can set resizing anchors for each object from layout mode in the Inspector Palette in the "Autosizing" section. When the window gets larger than the smallest size the layout will fit in, FileMaker will use these auto-sizing settings to determine how to slide or stretch each layout object. Typically, I'll design a layout for the smallest screen size it has to work in, then set object resizing/sliding to make the layout work for larger screens. You can Google "filemaker layout object resizing" and get a number of helpful tips on using the feature.
Lee Smith Posted December 30, 2011 Posted December 30, 2011 FileMaker 11 Adv..... Hi John, Please update your profile to reflect the current FileMaker version. You do this by clicking on your name at the top right-hand corner, and then selecting My Profile. You'll see a big buttons close to the top that says edit my profile, click on that and go down to the 2nd section or FileMaker. TIA, Lee
