Keep the old records as reference before delete or modify

Featured Replies

i have employee module...

Some times im going to edit the particular employee information.

In this case i have to maintain the old records for reference... that means i can able to view the particular record with the old information.. if im have done the edit in three times means.. i could able to view this three records.

Hope you can able to understand my requirement..

How can i achieve this.. any scripts or any layout operations..

please suggest me.. Many thanks in advance...

Search the forums for "audit trail".

You can get the WorldSync FM DataGuard or SyncDeck plug-in or you'd have to store the records history in a separate table (archive), every time you edit. It's much easier to get the plug-in.

You can do this in native FileMaker as Vaughan suggested. Do a search for “field modification” or “audit log” and that should return an abundance of hits. I just did this in Google and the 1st hit was for Ray J. Cologon of Nightwing Enterprises, see link, you should see several other links to topics with files returned by your searches, as this is a never-ending need. Some of files will show how to follow one or more fields depending upon what you are trying to accomplish. I would start with Ray's file here http://www.nightwing...s8/demo809.html .
