Arin
Anyone update to 10.1.1 yet? I'm curious how it will affect FMP 5.5 as well as FMP Server 5.5 I'm updating my FMP 5.5 machine now, so I'll report when it's back up. -Arin
Arin
Well so far looks good... a slight increase in speed, and an old problem where FMP 5.5 would crash if I tried to launch it as a login item seems to have been cured. networking "seems" to be faster, although I haven't done any extensive testing yet. I'll post again on results with FMP 5.5 Server...
Arin
Well I also updated our 867 G4 running FMP Server 5.5 and again no problems to report, only speed increases. Even our OS 9.1 iMac seemed to connect to the hosted DBs quicker than usual. -A
Newbies addup Posted November 14, 2001 Newbies Share Posted November 14, 2001 Hi Im experiencing a text display problem between 9.1 and X.1 . Using OSx.1 data is displayed differently - text has moved up to hug the top of field box and on screen display of font(helvetica) appears different (same DB opened OS9.1 then reboot into OSX.1 and reopen), 9 - clear and crisp , X - loose and blocky (email me for screen shots if curious} Has anyone else noticed this behaviour? my setup - PB 500 FW 256/12g multiple partitions, each OS on a seperate partn. thanks [ November 17, 2001: Message edited by: fmadic ]
Moon
fmadic, I have not experienced the problems you described with OS X 10.1.1, or any other FileMaker problem for that matter, but I did learn something important about updating from earlier release versions of OS X. I don't know if this will pertain to your problem, because my OS X upgrade lessons resulted in installing OS X several times before I got it all right, and I did not try FileMaker while until I DID get it right. Here goes. I got the free 10.1 upgrade cdrom from CompUSA a day or two before Apple released the 10.1.1 update. So I updated using the cd, then ran the 10.1.1 upgrade. The computer was very quirky and I had lots of wierd things go on so I elected to start from scratch. I backed up any documents on the OS X partition, initialized it in the OS 9,2.1 Finder, and installed version 10.0 from the original CD. Then I ran the OS 10.1 updater again. Wrong way to do it, at least for me. So I reinitialized the disk again, and this time read all I could about the update process and how to do it. Here is what I did, and now things are humming along smoothly. First I installed version 10.0 from the orignial CD. Then I ran each of the updates Apple had released earlier ( I still had the images on my os 9 partition). Then I installed the OS X 10.1 update from the update CD. Then I booted into OS X and used the software update system preference to update what IT said I needed. I restarted, ran the software update again, and it found something else to install (a security update). Rebooted again, used the software update, and it now updated the Software Installer for OS X. Rebooted yet again and this time software update was offered OS X 10.1.1 update. I then ran that update and everything is now cool. In reading everything I have found, I realize I had made a lot more work for myself than necessary. One big lesson, however, is to install the security update and the Installer update BEFORE you install the 10.1.1 update. OS X is great to use, but being new and much more complex the Classic mac operating systems, warrants careful attention to the Read Me files, as well as to current articles at sites such as MacInTouch and MacFixit. Hope this helps someone.
