In the past from what I have read, prior versions of fm stop being available shortly (?) after a new version is out although support is offered for another few years This is fine if the file format is the same or as they say, backward compatible. But if a business does not want to move to 12, how long will 11 be available for sell?

If someone doesn't want to move up yet, they should think about how many copies they might need in this file format to allow for their business growth and needs. Otherwise some businesses may get stuck with not enough copies when they hire someone new and then the business will be forced to upgrade ALL to 12 when they do not want to yet just because they need an additional copy of FileMaker. If they do not, they will stifle their business.

Does anyone know how this is going to be handled? We are afraid additional copies won't be available as we push 11 out to more of our employees. It seems like we made big mistake here with the versions being incompatible. My company is feeling like they are, by the owner's words, 'being blackmailed' if 11 is no longer available to purchase except for brief time.

Please help me understand how this will work.

Contact sales or customer service at FileMaker and ask them.

It has been the policy of FileMaker in the past to support current version and the prior version. IIRC, they will continue to sell the older versions at their current version price, and send you the older version, but get the correct and current policies and procedures from them.

Thank you Lee. We have it resolved. As you say, they are very nice about it and explained they will not leave us high and dry. My company is feeling better about it.
