Correct, they're linked. The container field is calculated from a text field that stores the file path. That path has to be maintained in order for images to display in the container. If you later want to move the files, a simple Replace on the file path should restore the container images, as long as you preserve the relative folder structure (i.e. keep the jpgs in the same sub-folders).
