Newbies steverl Posted January 31, 2001 Newbies Share Posted January 31, 2001 Any one have any ideas/suggestions as to why some Dell optiplex pc's run fm ok but others seem to start fm then nothing happens not even the filemaker intro screen. (Apart from fm showing up in the processes in the task manager). I have installed w2k service pack and am using fmpro 5.0v3 Cheers
LiveOak
For software requirements, the FileMaker web site shows: Windows 95, Windows 98 or Windows NT 4.0 (Service Pack 3) I don't know if FM is certified with Win 2000 as yet. -bd
Newbies rplandry Posted February 6, 2001 Newbies Share Posted February 6, 2001 I have had the same problem on a Dell Pentium 4 running W2K. There is plenty of RAM, plenty of hard disk space, still FM starts with the hourglass then ends without displaying the splash screen. I have had no other problems with installing FM, however this is the only Pentium 4. Other instances of W2K installations work fine. Any ideas? john.daly
On my Developer pack it says FM5v3 is OK for Windows 2000.
john.daly
Just a thought - the only time I have come across anything like this, it is because there is too little hard disc space available. Filemaker uses a significant amount of hard disc space when running and just because you had enough room to install it does not mean you have enough room to run it! Might be worth checking out. Newbies steverl Posted February 12, 2001 Author Newbies Share Posted February 12, 2001 I found the problem! The solution, on a dell machine is to remove a piece of software called yammaha syth ....... this conflicts with filemaker stopping it from running. Dell are now aware of this....... Thanks for all your ideas!
