Is it possible through a script to save a copy of a file with a timestamp and email it to someone

Featured Replies

I like to archive my projects to my yahoo email account. I would like to know if I could automatically send a copy of my file through a script to my email account. I would like it to automatically name the file with a name and a timestamp to always keep track of the latest version. I just want to find out if there is a way to automate doing this for my files.

If your file is not hosted on FMS you can use the "save copy as" script step and add timestamp.  If you create the path and filename in a variable for use in the save script step you can use the same variable to use as the attachment path for the Send Mail script step.

However, it's not a good idea to send a FM through email without zipping it first.  Email can corrupt files.

Thanks for the tip. I didn't know it could corrupt a file. Sometimes I back up my files to yahoo. Is there anyway to protect them from corruption if I back up that way?

How do you back up to Yahoo?

I back up to yahoo without using filemaker. I do it through safari in Yahoo mail.

Not a good idea t use email as a backup medium, email has been known to corrupt files.
