How to print a layout excluding the footer. i.e. just want to print the body to a PDF.

Another layout, w/o the footer ?

But is there away print the layout without opening it.. printing in the background.

I believe the layout would need to be visible at least for the time the data is sent to the printer which can be quite fast especially if scripted.

You could just set the objects in the footer to "hide when printing" (at the bottom of the Position tab in the inspector).
