1..3 or 3/1..3/5 defaults to current year!

One of my users pointed this out to me, that if you do a range search on a date fromatted field (does not work on text formatted) and leave the year blank, it will search only the current year..! Could not find this documented anywhere. just an FYI..

Hi Tyra,

Yes, there are many shortcuts in entering dates and spans for searching.  Check out your FM Help "find ranges of information" and also "finding numbers and dates" for many (but not all) examples.  :laugh2:

Also, default year is always assumed on dates whether in browse or find modes.

I never though about using the "..." range feature in part of date field, but I do know about "*"

In my date format, dd/mm/yy

*/6/12 returns all days in June 2012

*/*/12 returns all days in 2012

etc...

Thanks LaRetta, I am familiar with both of those pages, but no where does it talk about it defaulting to the current year. Guess, I have always tried to be specific, when scripting finds like that, but guess I would have eventually figured it out on my own it i ever had to script a search for a particular month across several years.. For example I would have thought 5/..6/ would have grabbed all of May and June throughout all dates and years..  instead of having to use 5/*/*...6/*/* or (5..6)/*/*
