pbucc Posted January 10, 2002 Posted January 10, 2002 ok we have a database the was created 2 years ago. it houses our agent information. the information is personal and for office use. this database has multiple duplicate records. most of the information is the same... name, address, phone. but the agent number is different. for example: there may be 5 records with "BOB'S" info, but each record has a different agent number. what i need to do is create 1 record that will have all the agent numbers. i would like to export the info and then put it into the new data base that has fields for each agent number. this is a hard one for me.
Kurt Knippel Posted January 10, 2002 Posted January 10, 2002 Are the records actually duplicates or do they just contian alot of the same information? From your description it seems to be the later. I would suggest using your current file as a child file and create a new parent file which contains ONE record for each Agent and is related to the various records in your current file, each of which contians an AgentNumber.
pbucc Posted January 10, 2002 Author Posted January 10, 2002 oh i wish there was an icon of a boot hitting a head..... that's what i would have used. what a great idea. the one thing that i hate about creating solutions is that you try real hard to figure a solution, when the easiest always seems to work. Thanx Captn Peter
danjacoby Posted January 10, 2002 Posted January 10, 2002 A solution is always easy after it's been explained. They call the phenomenon "20-20 hindsight".
