mmonsalveg Posted August 15, 2013 Posted August 15, 2013 Hello , i would like to know why in filemaker 12 all the templates when they use portals, they use a field "ID MATCH FIELD" on the table , what is this field for? please let me know thank you
Rick Whitelaw Posted August 15, 2013 Posted August 15, 2013 A portal is away of viewing records from a table related to the table on which the layout is based. There must be a match field to relate the tables. I don't know what else to say. Perhaps search "match field " in help? On the other hand, the match field needn't be on any layout for it to work.
Lee Smith Posted August 15, 2013 Posted August 15, 2013 Understanding relationships is a very important thing to know. There are Books, Videos and classes that can help you learn how they work. You can start with the FileMaker help Creating Portals Also, I just reviewed the FileMaker Pro 12 Essential Training course at lynda.com and found the section on Creating Relationships well done presentation. In fact, both "Essential Training" and the "In Depth are well worth the subscription cost, as you can do it by the month or longer at a reduce rate. HTH Lee
