"... you mean these fans?" Posted October 12, 2013 Posted October 12, 2013 Hi, Has there been any advancement into the ability to import a cvs file into FM Go. I have a customer who has a USB drive with a csv file that is download to it in the equipment room. And they would love to just be able to upload it into the iPad in FM Go. I've been reading up on the FM Go specs and it looks like that it can not be accomplish at this time, Yes / No ?? Any insight on this would be grateful. Thank you. Tom
Rick Whitelaw Posted October 14, 2013 Posted October 14, 2013 That's like saying you'd like FM desktop version to just upload a cvs file. You need to write a solution which would import the file. Same idea on FM GO on an iPad. FM Go runs a solution which you make and run on the iPad. Then import. My two cents . . .
"... you mean these fans?" Posted October 14, 2013 Author Posted October 14, 2013 Hi Rick, thank you, Hmm ... Can I assuming then, that the USB drive plugs into some sort of universal adaptor, then that universal adaptor plugs into the bottom of the iPad ?? Is there such a device ?? And can the solution file in FM Go access it ?? Then, based on what you are suggesting, the user opens FM Go, then taps on "THE" solution file ( Import USB File lets say ) as you suggest, click on "A" import button with the import script attached and that's it, done! Right - Yes ?? No ?? Based on my understanding and experience of the import on FM, you map the import once and you never have to re-map, just import ... assuming the source file doesn't change. Again, any guidance or insight may be a better term here I would be grateful. Thank you. Tom :-)
jbante Posted October 14, 2013 Posted October 14, 2013 Snozzles, you wouldn't be able to do this with the current version of FileMaker Go. For security purposes, FileMaker Go does not have access to the dock or lightning port on iOS devices, only to its own sandbox of files. I don't see this changing in the future. Is any of your equipment connected to the network? I've had some success with some industrial equipment that served up its data to the network, so I got that into FileMaker Go using the Insert From URL script step.
"... you mean these fans?" Posted October 14, 2013 Author Posted October 14, 2013 Hi Jbante, The service techs are in secure closets and their equipment; lets say a "USB Power Supply", are not allowed access to the owners ethernet ports - and the service tech loses their cell signal entering the buildings as they navigate to these closets. I though maybe a wifi concept in the closet but the client isn't interesting in deploying that cost. Currently the service tech sticks in a usb drive and downloads the data. Sound Like I'll have to have a process at the office when the service tech returns to upload the date to the FM solution on the PC. The data on the usb is in csv formate but it is not clean. Rows and Columns do not adhere to a standard csv, meaning the rows and column are different when the csv is import into excel and I have to manually move this data to align the import. I am work with the client to try and correct this csv file at the equipment source but no success at this time. Any suggestions as to how to handle this odd csv file formate ?? Everybody says that csv's are standard ... ha! I have yet to get a csv file that is "STANDARD" by any means and ready to import into any source file. I am always in a training session with the client on these files. OK ... Thank you. Tom :-)
