Nakizimbo Posted November 28, 2013 Posted November 28, 2013 I have a fm database which serves as a data collector. I have set my Data collection fields to Numeric which automatically bring up the iOS Numeric keypad. This brings up not only digits 0 - 9 but all the other characters on the iOS Numeric kep pad as well. Having all these other characters is not what I want as it makes the but keyboard buttons quite small on the iPhone. However, I also have a "go to record" script which I notice on the iPhone brings up a simple phone dialing keypad with just digits 0 - 9 and a del(x) button. Is there anyway that I can set my Numeric field to bring up this keyboard on the iPhone instead of the standard Numeric keyboard.
Matthew F Posted November 28, 2013 Posted November 28, 2013 I like your point about the bigger numeric keyboard which comes up with the "Go to record" dialogue. However, I might point out that this simple keyboard is not adequate for all numeric entries since it does not have a decimal key, nor a negative sign. Further, Filemaker data fields are not hard typed, so it is possible (if not advisable) to enter text into a numeric field. Therefore the FM Go default behavior for numeric fields makes sense. 1
Nakizimbo Posted November 28, 2013 Author Posted November 28, 2013 That was quick! Thanks. In my particular case I don't need a decimal or a negative, but I presume there is no way of overriding the default Numeric keypad?
Josh Ormond Posted November 29, 2013 Posted November 29, 2013 No. You would need to basically create a layout that emulates a num keypad and set the field with each button press.
Matthew F Posted December 12, 2013 Posted December 12, 2013 Nakizimbo, You might want to check out Filemaker v13. You can now specify one of 7 different keyboard configurations to use on an iOS device (with FM Go) on any given field. 1
Nakizimbo Posted December 17, 2013 Author Posted December 17, 2013 Thanks Matthew. I have tried that and it works a real treat. This is a major improvement for anyone using FM as a data collector.
