carlosnorvik Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 Hi: Has anybody tested WebDirect over WAN? If I understand correctly, most of the work will have to be carried out by the server since there will be no client desktop app when accessing the DB via a browser. Will this make it faster? I hope it does. It is a game changer to be able to deploy your solution and access it from anywhere w/o having to have a machine with FM installed, specially if the speed of WAN access improves. Carlos
Wim Decorte Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 Faster than an FMP client over the WAN? Hard to say because there are million factors at play here, including the complexity and design of your solution, available bandwidth, the workstation specs,... Also check out the hardware specs for the server when deploying WebDirect. Deploying for 50 FMP WAN clients is totally different than deploying to 50 WebDirect clients.
carlosnorvik Posted December 4, 2013 Author Posted December 4, 2013 Hi: I downloaded the FMPS trial, I'll install it and see how it goes. We have 8 LAN users and 2 WAN users, so the server is never heavily burdened. But even for very simple applications, and even when I am the only connected user, I hate the slow WAN speed (which I use when not in the office). Most of the time I connect using LogMeIn instead. Best regards Carlos PD It will take a few days before I can test, I had my tonsils removed @ 56! so far so good but locked at home
