May 2, 201411 yr I am trying to replace the use of a repeating field with a child table. A number of years ago I thought I saw a method that would allow you to display portal data horizontally, but I can't seem to find it again. What I thought I remembered was you could have four different portals all from the same child table, each with the same field, but each one would display the values from a different child record. So the first one on the left would show the data from the first child record, the second portal would show data from the second child. I am on a Mac using FMPA 13. hoz_portal.fmp12.zip Thanks in advance for any ideas.
May 3, 201411 yr Did you ever wonder what in the world the „Initial row“ setting in the Portal Setup dialog might be good for …?
May 3, 201411 yr Author Slam palm on forehead. The minute I read that I not only remembered the use, but remembered a few solutions I use it in. That's what happens when you haven't actively developed in Filemaker in over three years. Thanks
May 3, 201411 yr Note that that's not the only way to do it. You can also use portal filtering. The difference being that the initial row is permanently wired into the portal's setup, while portal filtering can be more flexible - see an example here: http://fmforums.com/forum/topic/71939-getting-more-out-of-filtered-portals-4horizontal-portal/
