Hi,

Does there exist a (preferably free) Calendar object available that would display a calendar that could be used to store and retrieve info to/from Filemaker? (ie click on a day square and generate a query).

Thanks,

Well,

How bout clicking on a day to bring up a new form that could display info relevant to the day, that form could have perhaps an add event button...

Great idea. I started making something like this as a self-project (never finished). It's hard, very hard; and a lot of work. Which explains the lack of useful freebies around.

Go to http://www.fmfiles.com into the Open Source files section and download MiniCalendar. I've incorporated this into my solution and it's fairly cool. Calendar control returns a date into a field which can then be used to lookup events in another table or layout with a simple script. This excellent work was done by Flaviano Crespi in Italy. One little quirk; his development machine had Italian Data/Time OS settings. You will need to include a startup script using "Set Use System Formats".

Regarding the Date/Time settings -- you can save a clone of the file on your machine and the new clone will adopt your own date/time settings. Then you will not have to implement a startup script for continued use.

You will need to add one record back to the MiniCal file after cloning.

Good luck!

Yes,

As Andrew says, save a clone but a clone (no records) otherwise it wont change the date format to your system format.

Then you will need to add in the 1 record as he says.

Yes, I have a Calendar solution...

I created it about five years ago for my own use...

It has:

- Yearly Calendar -

-- displays 12 months

-- move forward/backward one/ten years at a time

-- click on a month to view Monthly Calendar

- Monthly Calendar -

-- displays ALL weeks of a month

-- move forward/backward one month at a time

-- click on a day to view Daily Calendar

- Daily Calendar -

-- displays all events for the day

-- move forward/backward one day at a time

-- click on an event to view Event Details

- Event Details -

-- display specific event details (date/time/status/notes/etc.)

-- move forward/backward one event at a time

Over the years, I have implemented this system into some of my clients

If you want one that allows notes and activities, I've attached one by Steve Fleck. I'm not sure where I found it, but I really like it! I'd be happy to post it if you would like. BTW, welcome to the forum. If you can't find your answers on this forum, they don't exist. Cheers!

Thanks everyone! That MiniCal looks like the best freeware popup calendar I've seen! Impressive.

I now know why I haven't been able to get very far with this type of thing, I don't know how to work with container fields, etc. Sometimes knowing what you don't know really helps. I know what to focus on now.

(p.s., I haven't checked the site again, but I forgot to check the trick of rebooting and going to the URL. Sometimes, we're just having a bad connection.)

Cheers! smile.gif

Thank you for the welcome! Much appreciated!

I have been coming to that conclusion quickly. I have done more in last little while with everyone's help here than at any time in the past 5 or 6 years since I discovered FMP (though only have had my own copy and 32-bit computer for a couple of years now).

Great help everyone!! smile.gif

I'm having difficulty in getting results back from the calendar file into a date field within my database. Can you give me an example of the simple script which will go to the calendar file , wait for user to pick date , then transpose the selected date back to my target field ?
